This winsome cutter, draped in teak, inspires dreams of quitting your job and sailing to faraway places. It's just that kind of boat. Bill Crealock pushed all the right aesthetic buttons when be designed the 38." ~ John Kretschmer for Sailing Magazine

Allegro has been owned by the Novotney family since 1984. She has seen through a daughter in grade school to the daughter bringing her own children aboard. Allegro started her sailing journey in the Chesapeake Bay, exploring that areas rivers, creeks and coves. She has been in three Annapolis to Bermuda races, and sailed solo back from Bermuda to qualify for the OSTAR race from England to Newport.
In 1998 Allegro was sailed from the Chesapeake to Falmouth, England. The Novotney's then took her through the Channel Islands down the coast to France, Portugal and Spain. From her European adventure she was then sailed to Lisbon, where two French Navy officers sailed her to Florida! After sailing in warmer waters for a year she was brought back up the coast and landed in Rockport, Maine in 2006. Since 2006 she has been sailed around the Maine coast primarily in Penobscot Bay.
"A true yacht must be designed to meet the challenges of any sea; for whether she is to sail on weekend or circumnavigate the globe, is of no consequence to Mother Nature. That is why (Cabo Rico) yachts are designed to be balanced, track well, have a sea-kindly motion, and be as seaworthy as possible." ~ Cabo Rico Brochure
"Each Cabo Rico (was) handcrafted, beginning with a heavily-built hull that far exceeds (period) standards.. Alternative layers of 1 1/2 oz. mat and 24 oz. roving (were) hand-laid to a thickness of one (1") inch surrounding the keel and 3/4 of an inch to the sheer. From the garboards to the rub rail a 5/8 inch thick balsa wood core adds tremendous strength to the topsides, while providing excellent sound deadening and insulating qualities. The ballast is pre-formed casting fitted into the keel cavity. All voids (were) filled with a special fiberglass compound and the whole area is covered with layers of mat/roving and floor cross members. This keel encapsulation procedure insures the immobility of the ballast while providing extra strength, rigidity and the security of a double hull in this crucial area. " ~ Cabo Rico Brochure
Allegro's hull is in very good shape and shows well. The exterior has:
"Like the hull, the deck is also one-piece molded construction. It too, has a balsa wood core providing superior strength and rigidity along with excellent insulation qualities. Extra wide side decks and molded-in bulwarks assure safe footing while adding great strength and water-tight integrity at the hull/deck joint.
A molded anchor locker with teak deck hatches, bow chocks, teak cap rails, a hooded companionway, two chromed bronze dorade vents mounted on plexiglass and teak boxes, three teak and plexiglass deck hatches; along with the highest quality stainless steel, and chrome plated hardware, ports and hawser holes are among the amenities that you will find on the decks of a Cabo Rico 38." ~ Cabo Rico Brochure
Allegro is a very nice example of the Cabo Rico 38. Her decks are clean and well cared for and all equipment should be in good working order. From bow to stern her deck equipment features:
"The Cabo Rico 38 is a yacht built to sail. Her long-keeled, full bodied hull gives the Cabo Rico 38 a sure and steady feel, while her fine entry and high aspect cutter rig provide easy sailing and performance on all points" ~ Cabo Rico Brochure
Allegros rigging includes
"No other yacht in the same size range can match the interior finish or accommodations available in the Cabo Rico 38. The most striking feature setting a Cabo Rico Yacht apart from the others is the use of solid teak for all internal joinery. There is no exposed plywood or other laminate except formica on galley counters and in the head. Each piece of teak is hand fitted and finished to perfection, with no less than seven coats of fine furniture sealer. Each coat is hand rubbed with pumice to mirror-like gloss." ~ Cabo Rico Brochure
